It is a powerful moment, not at the time of the Cazimi necessarily, but more so as the planet moves away from the Sun. The square between the planet of thinking and communication in self-expressive and creative Leo is being challenged by expansive and optimistic Jupiter which could potentially overtake communication and thoughts creating over-confidence or jubilance which can lead to misspeaking or overstepping in communications. Watch out for potential errors of judgment or even arrogance. And be sure to under-promise so that you can over-deliver. A few hours later the New Moon in Cancer provides the opportunity for setting intentions, especially in the area of self-care and nurturing. Cancer is about internal emotions and energy. It brings up issues of trusting what you are feeling and tapping into what your intuition is telling you. Ensure that you are in alignment with what it is you really want – what do you want to manifest next? And trust your internal guidance, and your intuition when doing this. The lunar nodes representing our karmic path are shifting into the Aries – Libra axis relationship. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year (I will be speaking from a northern hemisphere perspective, so know that the opposite is true for the southern hemisphere). The days will begin to get shorter as we move into the darker days. Cancer represents our need for emotional security, compassion, and belonging, as well as the ideas of nurturing and being nurtured, food, mothering, and the Mother archetype. As a water sign, it operates in the realm of emotions. And, as the first water sign, it has an energy of initiation and power to make things happen that we don’t see in the other water signs (Scorpio and Pisces). There is a trine between the Sun at 0 Cancer and Saturn at 7 Pisces. Trines are when planets are approximately 120 degrees away from each other, and indicate a harmonious, supporting relationship between the two energies. This particular trine shows that there is good support now for evaluating the structures and systems in place for supporting your choices moving forward. This is especially true in the areas of relationships, and perhaps finding ways to be in relation with other people (or your own self) in order to follow your will, make choices in alignment with your essence (Sun in Pisces) by rising above the things (ideas, people, situations) that bind you or hold you back (Saturn in Pisces). We've seen some seriously shady tactics, such as demanding a list size of a certain number or obliging participants to promote the project with a prescribed number of newsletter mentions or social media posts. It sucks and completely goes against the grain of what these sorts of events should be about - community. Community projects are different The best community projects are a valuable experience for everyone involved, not just the host. And it's the host's responsibility to make it that way. Being a part of someone else's community project can be a fantastic marketing opportunity for you, but (as with so many things in life) you do need to be engaged and view the experience as the opportunity it is. Here are some great ways that you can make sure that you make the most of your participation: Craft an awesome submission This one goes without saying, really. This is going to be the first impression that people are going to have of your business, so make sure you create something valuable. Follow your host's instructions carefully, and make sure that you proofread and edit before submitting. Oh, and a quick aside - do your host a favor and get your submission in on time! Engage with the project It's not enough to just submit your contribution and then forget all about it. If you want to reap the benefits of the project, then make sure you're fully engaged. That means signing up to receive the emails, joining the group and introducing yourself, and commenting on posts as the project progresses. Show up and be visible. Promote the project Great community projects deserve to be talked about. You've shown that you care about the topic by agreeing to participate, so do your part to make the project great by talking about it with your audience, especially as the project progresses. Share the work of the other participants and get involved with the promotional side. Your host should have provided you with graphics or swipe copy, so it should be really easy for you to share. The more the project is shared, the more eyes on it, and that means more eyes on you and your business as well! Be active in the group However your host is managing the community aspect of the project - in a Facebook group, for example - make sure you take a few minutes out of your day to like or comment. And be available to answer questions etc., in the group on the day your submission goes live. If people get excited about your submission and then see you engaging in the group, they're far more likely to go and check out your work. Use it to broaden your own network By being a part of a community project, you are exposing your business to a whole new audience who may never have heard of you otherwise. Use it as a networking opportunity to reach out and connect with kindred spirits. They might be other participants in the project or someone you get chatting with in the group. Either way, be open to connecting with new people and developing new relationships - you never know what might come out of it. Before the project even kicks off, I recommend following your fellow participants on Instagram or other social media and start engaging. This way, you'll be able to get a good sense of who you'd really like to connect with further. Make it easy for people to find out more about you Make sure you send the host a descriptive bio and links to your website and most used social media. Be discerning, and don't send links to everything you've ever done, or people will be overwhelmed and not click on anything. Similarly, keep your bio short and sweet - if your bio is longer than your submission, you might want to rethink your priorities! If the host allows it, offer a killer freebie to tempt people over to your website. The best freebies will be relevant both to the project and to your business. If you have an existing freebie, then it might be worth tweaking the language or even creating a separate landing page just for the project. Show off your involvement If it’s a great project that you’re proud to be a part of, then don't be afraid to show it off, even after the project has ended! Add the project ebook to your own website (with the host's permission, of course), blog about the experience, talk about it on your Instagram stories, etc. Develop your relationships If you've been talking to people and connecting in the group during the course of the project, then make sure you can stay connected to those people once the project has ended. Find them on social media, sign up for their emails, bookmark their websites, or invite people on coffee dates (virtual or IRL). Sometimes you just reach a point where you don’t know what to “do”. I remember a time, a few years ago, when I was so full of fear financially. I was having thoughts about the possibility of living in my car. I figured I could give up my apartment, live in my car, keep my gym membership so I could take showers there, etc. I was applying for jobs at the time as an IT project manager or Business Analyst mostly – I was networking at various professional organization chapter meetings and I was submitting my resume to recruiters. I was actually getting interviews and sometimes I would have several interviews with the same company. The most was 9 interviews at the same company – I really thought I had that one in the bag! Then there was another one that seemed as though it had been created for me – my skills and experience were a perfect match for it and the people were really cool – one of them even told me in an aside that they loved me and were pretty sure it was a done deal. And then as each one of these fell through, my faith plummeted and my fear grew to monstrous proportions. At that point, I had what I call my “kitchen floor moment”. I had just hung up from the rejection of that second company with the perfect job, and I began cooking dinner. As I stirred the pot, the fear began to well up in my body as the tears welled up in my eyes, and I slumped to the floor with wracking sobs and succumbed to the total and complete fear and dejection. I could not see how I could get out of this mess and I felt that I had nothing to offer. I couldn’t see any options in front of me. All I could do in that moment was to SURRENDER. To let it all go. As soon as (and for several days after) I relinquished the idea of control, ideas began to come to me about my situation. I could “see” more opportunities and potential that I couldn’t when I was so tightly focused on a particular outcome. The sun came out (stayed tuned for next week when I discuss the concept of the Sun and illumination), and solutions appeared – I had options. So, what is surrender anyway? What does it mean to let it go? It means letting go of the idea that we can control the situation. It is not giving up. It is a release of the manic micro-management of the situation, and the idea that we know how things are “supposed” to be or play out. The trick is to let go if the illusion of control, while maintaining an interest in the situation. This is often called detached engagement. In astrology, Neptune asks us to surrender – to relinquish control of, to let go. The planet of dreams, mystery, escapism – films and all the “-isms”. Where Neptune touches key points in our personal charts, we can find a lack of clarity, a dreaminess, or idealization – not seeing things as they really are. At best it can also help us focus on our hopes and dreams, at worst it can lead us to escapism through alcohol drugs, sex, shopping, or other obsessions. Over the next few weeks, we will have a strong Neptunian influence in the world and in our lives. This past Wednesday the Sun was conjunct (right next to) Neptune. The Sun, representing our ego, our conscious self and our will being influenced by the dreamy, idealistic quality of Neptune could play out as an opportunity to rest and recharge, meditate, journal and do more things that help you access your intuition. It could also be a good time to let go of things that you might be attempting to control and manipulate too much. Let it go and see if it sticks around – then you know it’s for you. Yesterday, we had Venus conjunct Neptune, lending a sensitivity to relationships, promoting a sense of romance and connection. This is a great time for more establish relationships enabling more closeness, ease and comfort; but a warning for new relationships since this is also a time when we are wearing our “rose-colored glasses”, and perhaps not seeing what’s really there under the shiny veneer – those things that can come back to bite us later. We are also under the influence of the New Moon in Pisces – a sign that represents the need to transcend earthly cares and bonds. This is a very visionary time and a great time to set the vision for the next year as Jupiter is exerting its influence and expanding and bestowing blessings on intentions set at this time. And then, at the end of the months, we will have Mercury conjunct Neptune bringing a dreamy, fuzzy quality to our communications. There could be a lack of clarity and confusion, so watch out for that in your communications with others. It could also be a great time, if you are in tune with someone to have more intuitive, transcendental interactions as well. So, I will leave you with this: In what area of your life are you holding on too tightly and trying to control and micro-manage? The ELI is an attitudinal assessment, which is based on an energy/action model.
